What is an NVQ?
Is a competency based assessment achieved in the workplace. You are required to demonstrate the ability of doing the role in your relevant category.
To complete an NVQ you will need to provide work based evidence, an assessment by observation, a professional discussion to cover all the relevant units in your category.
Cornerbrook will guide and assist you through the whole NVQ process, this is not a test it is a competency based assessment.
On completion of your NVQ and prior to applying for your Blue Card you must have an in date relevant HSE Test. Please contact Cornerbrook for any further information or clarification.
Upgrading Red to Blue Card - You Need an NVQ

On achieving your Red Trained Operator Card you are required to undertake the relevant NVQ to upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card. The red card lasts for just 2 years and within this time you must be registered for the relevant NVQ and complete it. Although it is a mandatory part of the CPCS scheme the NVQ is a stand alone qualification awarded by an Awarding Body which endorses competence in the workplace.
Cornerbrook can take you every step of the way to ensure you attain the qualification you need. These qualifications can be used throughout your working life and can be taken from site to site with the knowledge that it shows the employer you are competent and able to work to recognised industry standards. The NVQ qualification gives proof you have reached a certain standard within your occupation.
What if my Red Card has expired?
What if my Red Card has expired but is still within 12 months of its expiry date?
The red card offers a 12 month extension from the date of expiry on the red card. To gain the extension you MUST register for the relevant NVQ and this must be then completed within the extension period.
What if my Red Card has expired and it is over 12 months from its original expiry date but I have plenty of experience in the role?
– Complete the CPCS Technical Test for both Theory and Practical in your relevant category
– Register for the relevant NVQ and complete it within 12 months.
I have not been active in this role so have no current experience?
The only way to re-enter the CPCS system is to:
– Complete the relevant Cskills HSE Test
– Complete the CPCS Technical Test for both Theory and Practical in your relevant category
– Register for the relevant NVQ and complete it within 12 months.
