Who are CITB?
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is the executive non-departmental public body responsible for construction training in England, Scotland, and Wales. Their focus is on helping the construction industry attract talent and support skills development by ensuring training standards and qualifications meet the needs of the job. They also operate a Levy Scheme, which allows paying employers to access the training they want and need for their people through the Grant Scheme when booking through Approved Training Organisations (ATO).
We strive to represent both the training provider network and the employer’s voice through our work on review committees, product development teams, and industry forums. Cornerbrook is proud to be an accredited ATO and continues to enjoy a collaborative working relationship with CITB.
Who can register for CITB?
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has to collect a levy from all employers in the construction industry under the Industrial Training Act 1982 and related laws. But the construction industry is a lot broader than you might think. Here’s what counts as “construction industry activities”:
You’re considered part of the construction industry if more than half of your employees’ (including subcontractors’) time is spent on construction work. If that’s the case for your business, you’ll need to register with CITB and file an annual Levy Return so they can assess how much you owe.
CITB Employer Networks
The CITB Employer Network Fund helps UK construction companies cover 70% of the costs for crane operator training and other essential workforce programs.
By Dec 2024, the whole of the UK will have access to the CITB Employer Network – if you can’t find one in your area, please get in touch, and we’ll make the introduction.
CITB Levy & Grants
Employers registered with the CITB and up-to-date on their levy payments can apply for grants. These grants are awarded once an employee completes any CITB-approved training course that meets the required standards across a range of categories and specifications.
